Statistics: Russia’s April output of protective equipment doubles

MOSCOW, May 22 (PRIME) -- Production of personal protective equipment grew by 96.6% on the month and by 98.9% on the year in April, the Federal State Statistics Service said in a statement late on Thursday without providing absolute figures.

The output of electronic medical equipment used in diagnosis and therapy also jumped by 68.5% on the month and by 98.7% on the year in April. Some companies from the neighboring industries that previously produced household appliances and radio electronic devices switched to production of medical equipment, which is in high demand now, the service said.

The output of drugs and materials used in medicine also grew by 9.2% on the month and by 6.6% on the year in April in spite of a general contraction of industrial output in the month, the service added.
